Human Rights Council (HRC)
The Human Rights Council (HRC) is the key intergovernmental body within the United Nations system responsible for the promotion and protection of all human rights around the globe. It holds three regular sessions a year: in March, June and September. The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is the secretariat for the HRC.
The HRC works by:

Debating and passing resolutions on global human rights issues and human rights situations in particular countries

Examining complaints from victims of human rights violations or activist organizations on behalf of victims of human rights violations

Appointing independent experts (known as “Special Procedures”) to review human rights violations in specific countries and examine and further global human rights issues
-
Engaging in discussions with experts and governments on human rights issues
-
Assessing the human rights records of all UN Member States every four and a half years through the Universal Periodic Review
AWID works with feminist, progressive and human rights partners to share key knowledge, convene civil society dialogues and events, and influence negotiations and outcomes of the session.
With our partners, our work will:
◾️ Monitor, track and analyze anti-rights actors, discourses and strategies and their impact on resolutions
◾️ Raise awareness of the findings of the 2017 and 2021 OURs Trends Reports.
◾️Support the work of feminist UN experts in the face of backlash and pressure
◾️Advocate for state accountability
◾️ Work with feminist movements and civil society organizations to advance rights related to gender and sexuality.

Barbara Allimadi
Barbara Allimadi était une militante politique et des droits humains originaire d’Ouganda. En 2012, elle a coorganisé une manifestation contre l’agression policière télévisée d’Ingrid Turinawe, opposante politique dont le sein a été pressé par un officier de police. Durant la manifestation, Barbara et d’autres activistes se sont déshabillées et n’ont gardé que leur soutien-gorge devant le poste central de police de Kampala. Cet épisode fut par la suite désigné par la tristement célèbre « manifestation en soutien-gorge » en Ouganda.

Ce n’est pas comme si nous étions en train de dire que nous ne nous respections pas. Nous étions dégoûtées par les actes commis. » - Barbara Allimadi, 2013 (Daily Monitor)
Diplômée en électronique et en ingénierie des communications de l’Université métropolitaine de Londres, Barbara était ingénieure réseau au Royaume-Uni et une fervente amatrice de musique reggae. Elle retourna en Ouganda en 2007, au moment du décès de sa mère.
En 2019, elle fut désignée Coordonnatrice pour les affaires internationales et la diaspora de l’Alliance for National Transformation (alliance pour la transformation nationale, ANT), un parti politique lancé la même année par un leader d’opposition.

Barbara est décédée le 27 avril 2020.

El año 2013 marcó el inicio de nuestro Plan Estratégico para el período 2013-2016 que fue elaborado en respuesta al contexto mundial actual.
A continuación les acercamos los puntos destacados de nuestro análisis del contexto mundial, la posición que asumimos como organización mundial feminista y de membresía ante este contexto, los resultados que nos proponemos y cómo organizamos nuestro trabajo para alcanzarlos.

What you need to know
- Priority will be given to activities that facilitate and encourage connection and interaction among participants. If your activity can be held online or hybrid (connecting participants on-site and online), please consider how to generate genuine engagement and active participation from online participants.
- We encourage cross-movement, cross-regional and inter-generational encounters, dialogues and exchanges.
- Please design your activity in a way that allows flexibility in the number of participants. While a few activities may be limited to smaller groups, the majority will need to accommodate larger numbers.
- If your activity fits a number of formats or none, you will be able to indicate as such on the application form.
Languages in which you can submit your activity
- Languages for Applications: Applications will be accepted in English, French, Spanish, Thai and Arabic.
- Languages at the Forum: Simultaneous interpretation will be provided at the Forum Plenary Sessions in English, French, Spanish, Thai, and Arabic as well as ISL (International Sign Language) and possibly more. For all other activities, interpretation will be offered in some––but not all––of these languages, and possibly others, such as Swahili and Portuguese.

Changements sismiques : une année d'achèvement, de transition et de réflexion | rapport annuel 2017
Ces cinq dernières années, ont été particulièrement significatives pour l’AWID.
Nous avons contribué à d'importantes victoires, telles que l'élargissement du paysage du financement des droits des femmes grâce à des travaux de recherche et de plaidoyer novateurs de grande envergure. En même temps, nous avons connu des revers dévastateurs, notamment les assassinats de femmes défenseures des droits humains telles que Berta Caceres au Honduras, Gauri Lankesh en Inde et Marielle Franco au Brésil, ainsi que la montée de la mobilisation anti-droits dans les espaces voués aux droits humains.
Il y a cinq ans, nous nous sommes engagées à renforcer notre mouvement en produisant des savoirs sur les tendances des mouvements anti-droits, ainsi que sur des questions avec lesquelles les féministes s'engagent plus rarement, tels les flux financiers illicites. Nous avons mené des plaidoyers côte à côte avec nos partenaires du mouvement, renforçant ainsi l'activisme intergénérationnel et celui des jeunes féministes et élargissant la protection globale des défenseuses des droits humains. Arrivées au terme de notre plan stratégique, nous sommes fières de nos réalisations et de notre évolution en tant qu’organisation. Nous terminons l'année 2017 avec un engagement, des idées et un apprentissage renouvelés pour poursuivre la lutte à venir !
