AWID es un organización feminista internacional de membresía, que brinda apoyo a los movimientos que trabajan para lograr la justicia de género y los derechos de las mujeres en todo el mundo.
El Consejo de Derechos Humanos (CDH) es el cuerpo intergubernamental del sistema de las Naciones Unidas responsable de la promoción y protección de todos los derechos humanos en todo el mundo. El HRC se reúne en sesión ordinaria tres veces al año, en marzo, junio y septiembre. El CDH trabaja de la siguiente forma:
Debate y aprueba resoluciones sobre cuestiones mundiales de derechos humanos y el estado de los derechos humanos en determinados países
Examina las denuncias de víctimas de violaciones a los derechos humanos o las de organizaciones activistas, quienes interponen estas denuncias representando a lxs víctimas.
Nombra a expertos independientes que ejecutarán los «Procedimientos Especiales» revisando y presentado informes sobre las violaciones a los derechos humanos desde una perspectiva temática o en relación a un país específico
Participa en discusiones con expertos y gobiernos respecto a cuestiones de derechos humanos.
A través del Examen Periódico Universal, cada cuatro años y medio, se evalúan los expedientes de derechos humanos de todos los Estados Miembro de las Naciones Unidas
Se está llevarando a cabo en Ginebra, Suiza del 30 de junio al 17 de julio de 2020.
AWID trabaja con socios feministas, progresistas y de derechos humanos para compartir conocimientos clave, convocar diálogos y eventos de la sociedad civil, e influir en las negociaciones y los resultados de la sesión.
Con nuestrxs socixs, nuestro trabajo será:
◾️ Monitorear, rastrear y analizar actores, discursos y estrategias anti-derechos y su impacto en las resoluciones
◾️ Desarrollar conjuntamente una labor de promoción conjunta para contrarrestar a los actores anti-derechos y debatir más a fondo las conclusiones del Informe de Tendencias de OUR de 2017
◾️ Apoyar, coordinar y desarrollar de manera colaborativa el Caucus feminista emergente en el CDH
Isabel Cabanillas de la Torre was a much loved young feminist artist and activist from Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, known for her beautiful and evocative hand-painted clothing with eyes being an emblematic feature in her work. Her murals transformed the run down and vacant buildings in Ciudad Juarez’s downtown, bringing life and political commentary to their walls.
Through her art and political activism Isabel sought to draw attention to thegender based violence pervasive in her hometown. She volunteered with the women’s network Mesa de Mujeres on the Citizen Observatory on Gender to monitor the performance of judges, prosecutors and public defenders on cases of femicides and other gender based violations. She was also a member of Hijas de su Maquilera Madre, a feminist collective whose name makes reference to the daughters of mothers who are maquila workers. Some of these mothers were among the first victims of femicide in the city.
Isabel’s latest project, still in progress, was an art installation to protest a Canadian company that was looking to mine copper in the Samalayuca Desert.
On 18 January, 2020 Isabel was shot while riding her bike back home in Downtown Juárez, in what appeared to be a targeted killing, her body found beside her bike.
Isabel’s murder, sparked a new wave of outrage against femicides in the region, hundreds marched to the US-Mexico border bridge, blocking it for hours and chanting “Ni una mas” (Not one more) as feminist collectives continue to protest the murders of women throughout Mexico. In 2019 alone, 3142 women and girls were killed in Mexico, many of whom were targeted specifically because of their gender.

2014: lacement du processus préparatoire de la 3ème Conférence sur le FdD
Lancement du processus préparatoire intergouvernemental de la troisième Conférence sur le financement du développement, octobre 2014
Un processus préparatoire, co-facilité par l’ambassadeur guyanais George Wilfred Talbot et l’ambassadeur norvégien Geir O. Pedersen, a été instauré pour mener des discussions préliminaires relatives à la troisième Conférence sur le FdD prévue en juillet 2015 à Addis Abeba, en Éthiopie.
Dans le cadre de ces préparations, deux séries de séances de fond informelles ont été organisées au siège de l’ONU à New York afin d’apporter des éléments d’information pouvant servir aux sessions de rédaction du futur document final.
À cette occasion, le WWG sur le FdD a été réactivé dans le but d’intégrer les perspectives féministes et de défense des droits des femmes aux discussions et délibérations, avant et pendant la troisième Conférence sur le FdD. À l’heure actuelle, le groupe est co-animé par l’AWID, Development Alternatives with Women for a New Era (DAWN) et la Feminist Task Force (FTF).
Le WWG sur le FdD a prononcé deux déclarations lors de la première série de sessions et présenté un document écrit lors de la seconde. Il a, dans les deux cas, souligné l’invisibilité des inégalités entre les genres dans ce processus préparatoire, tout comme celle de l’inclusion d’autres formes de discrimination et d’inégalité. Le travail du WWG met en lumière les rapports de pouvoir entre les genres et leurs points d’intersection avec d’autres catégories, telles que la race, le handicap, l’appartenance ethnique, l’âge, la richesse et l’identité sexuelle, ce qui accentue la répartition inégale des chances et des ressources dans toutes les sociétés de la planète.
Les organisations de la société civile se sont dites inquiètes de l’étroitesse de l’espace qui leur a été accordé pour prendre part aux deux sessions de fond informelles. Elles ont notamment évoqué le risque que l’espace de participation de la société civile aux négociations portant sur le document final de janvier 2015 ne soit lui aussi limité.

Aïssata Kane, también conocida afectuosamente como «Yaye Kadia»” [«Madre Kadia»], fue una feminista comprometida, durante toda su vida, con la defensa de los derechos de las mujeres africanas y, en especial, mauritanas.
En 1975 fue la primera mujer en ocupar el cargo de Ministra de Protección Familiar y Asuntos Sociales, puesto desde el cual Aïssata trabajó fervientemente para mejorar el estatus de las mujeres de su país.
Este trabajo incluyó el fomento de la educación de niñas y mujeres, la lucha contra la práctica de alimentación forzada de mujeres jóvenes, la incidencia para la inclusión de una legislación sobre derechos maritales, y la promoción de la creación de un cupo de representación femenino en el Parlamento.

Fundó la Unión Nacional de Mujeres de Mauritania (UNFM), creando y publicando con otras activistas Marienou, una revista dedicada a la emancipación de las mujeres mauritanas. Aïssata también dirigió varias organizaciones subregionales y locales, por ejemplo, como Presidenta de la Asociación Internacional de Mujeres Francófonas (AIFF) y, como firme ecologista, fue Presidenta de la Asociación para la Protección del Medio Ambiente de Mauritania (APEM).

The Forum took place on 10 July 2015 in Addis Ababa and convened feminists, grassroots women, gender advocates, academics and representatives of women’s rights organizations/networks with specific inputs by UN representatives and other policy makers.
The objectives of the Women's Forum were to: share information on the state of play in the latest FfD negotiations; jointly analyze the FfD panorama and follow-up; build a common women’s rights positioning; and strategize on how to meaningfully and substantively engage from a feminist perspective at the Addis FfD Conference.
The CSO FfD Forum took place in Addis Ababa on 11-12 July 2015 and aimed to: inform participating CSOs on the state of play of the official process and coordinate civil society participation in the 3rd FfD Conference; develop a collective CSO Forum Declaration as well as the CSO messages for the FfD Conference Roundtables, the CSO FfD Group-led side events and any other opportunities that might emerge; and plan and organize future areas of CSO engagement on Financing for Development, beyond the 3rd FfD Conference.
The third Conference on Financing For Development took place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 13-16 July 2015 and focused on: assessing the progress made in the implementation of the 2002 Monterrey Consensus and the 2008 Doha Declaration; addressing new and emerging issues, including in the context of the recent multilateral efforts to promote international development cooperation. Taking into account: the current evolving development cooperation landscape; the interrelationship of all sources of development finance; the synergies between financing objectives across the three dimensions of sustainable development (economic, social and environmental); and the need to support the United Nations development agenda beyond 2015; and reinvigorating and strengthening the financing for development follow-up process.
The Addis Ababa Action Agenda was adopted on 15 July 2015 by Heads of State, Governments and High Representatives at the UN.
The feeling however from developing countries, CSOs and more specifically women's organisations was that the Addis Ababa Action Agenda failed to meet the target. The Women's Working Group expressed its strong disappointment and demanded structural changes in the global economic governance and development architecture. Rosane Santiago Silveira, que l’on appelait affectueusement Rô Conceição, était une activiste brésilienne pour l’environnement et les droits humains qui se battait inlassablement pour protéger l’environnement, là où il était le plus menacé.
Il pouvait entre autres s’agir de le défendre sur l’île de Barra Valha, mise en danger par une exploitation pétrolière, ou de le protéger avec des campagnes contre l’accaparement des terres et l’expansion de plantations d’eucalyptus dans l’État de Bahia, où Rosane était membre du conseil de la réserve d’extractivistes de Cassurubá.

Elle participait à des activités syndicales et des mouvements culturels et de défense des droits humains. Rosane consacrait une grande partie de sa vie à des causes qui lui étaient chères, mais qui concernaient également la terre, les forêts, les rivières et les communautés dont les droits et vies sont constamment en danger.
Elle a été torturée et assassinée le 29 janvier 2019 à Nova Viçosa, une ville du sud de Bahia.

Influencing, advocacy and campaigning
We collaboratively leverage our access, power, resources and relationships to strategically influence policy and practice. We aim to advance feminist agendas through our work with policy makers, funders and activists in regional and global spaces. We also work to influence feminist and women’s rights movements to centre historically oppressed movements as part of efforts to strengthen our collective power and influence.
Convening and connecting
We use our convening power to facilitate dialogue and strategize on key issues. We connect our members and allies with one another, sharing and exchanging resources, ideas and action across relevant issues. We organize and facilitate spaces to strengthen and engage across movements, to imagine and envisage new futures, to develop effective influencing tactics and to co-create powerful agendas and processes.
Solidarity and bridge-building
We work to mobilize our members and the movements we support to strengthen collective action in solidarity with feminist causes and defenders at risk. We build partnerships, engage in active listening and ongoing, long-term, solidarity. We work with defenders to build a body of knowledge and support networks of solidarity on protection and wellbeing.
Arts and creative expression
We recognize the unique and strategic value of cultural and creative strategies in the struggle against oppression and injustice. We work with artists who centre feminist voices and the narratives of historically oppressed communities. In this emerging tactic, we see art and creative expression helping us envision a world where feminist realities continue to flourish and be celebrated.

Our initiatives
Our initiatives work at the intersections of the sites of change we work to address, the movements we prioritize, and the tactics we use:
We monitor, document and make visible how anti-rights actors are operating and colluding in multilateral spaces and support feminist, women’s rights and gender justice movements and allies to counter their influence and impact.
Working on extractivism, tax justice and corporate accountability, we build knowledge on corporate power and influence; advocate for corporate accountability and equitable distribution of wealth; and amplify feminist proposals for just economies.
We develop accessible, action-oriented analysis on the state of resourcing for feminist movements. We aim to influence funders’ policies and practices, deepen and sustain funding for feminist social change, and support movements’ needs and strategies.
In addition to the impact we aim to have in the world, AWID is expressly committed to strengthening our own organizational learning and resilience in order to further strengthen global feminist movements.

Siempre hemos trabajado para garantizar que nuestros Foros sean desarrollados conjuntamente con nuestrxs afiliadxs, los movimientos, y nuestros colectivos prioritarios.
Para el Foro 2020 queremos profundizar y fortalecer este espíritu y esta práctica de creación conjunta y colaboración. También reconocemos la necesidad de mejorar el equilibrio entre la inclusión de muchas voces y experiencias y el espacio para que lxs participantes y el equipo respiren, se tomen una pausa, y disfruten de un poco de tiempo de inactividad.
Este Foro será diferente en cuanto a que:
Tendremos muchas menos actividades organizadas, porque queremos que la gente tenga tiempo para relacionarse y hablar entre sí, experimentar, procesar, etc. Es fundamental que sepas que puedes venir al Foro, participar y ser muy activx, y no facilitar ninguna actividad organizada (o «sesión»).
Tendremos Espacios Abiertos (al menos una tarde entera sin ninguna actividad organizada), y también espacios físicos disponibles durante todo el Foro para que la gente organice sus propias reuniones.
Tendremos un Comité de Contenido y Metodología compuesto por feministas de distintas regiones con experiencia en metodologías participativas, para apoyar al equipo de AWID y a quienes lideren actividades en el Foro en el uso de formatos creativos e interesantes para las actividades del Foro.

This is Mariama Sonko, an inspiring small-scale rural farmer, eco-feminist and a woman human rights defender.
She lives in Niaguiss, a town in the southwest of Senegal. Growing up in a family and community of rural farmers, she witnessed the essential role of women in food production and seed preservation from a very early age, while also being immersed in the rhythms and working of the land. Mariama has been defending local agricultural knowledge and peasant practices since the 1990s. As a mother of five children, the food she grows herself is the main source of sustenance for her family.
She is currently the president of “Nous Sommes la Solution'' and is involved in promoting agroecological practices and family farming, encouraging food sovereignty, biodiversity and farmer seed preservation, and demanding equitable access to resources and land for women across West Africa.

Recordando a lxs defensorxs que ya no están con nosotrxs
AWID honra a lxs feministas y defensoras de los derechos humanos que han muerto y cuyas contribuciones al progreso de los derechos humanos se echa mucho en falta.
Celebrando a lxs activistxs y las defensoras de derechos humanos
El Tributo de AWID a las defensoras de derechos humanos es una exhibición fotográfica que presenta a activistxs del feminismo, de los derechos de las mujeres y de la justicia social de todo el mundo que ya no están con nosotrxs.
El Tributo fue lanzado por primera vez en 2012, en el 12º Foro Internacional de AWID, en Turquía. Tomó la forma de una exposición física de retratos y biografías de feministas y activistxs que fallecieron. La iniciativa fue descrita por lxs participantes del Foro como una manera única, emotiva y energizante de conmemorar nuestra historia colectiva.
En el 13º Foro Internacional, en Brasil, honramos a lxs activistas y a las defensoras de derechos humanos con una ceremonia de inauguración de un mural en cuatro idiomas, un espectáculo de danza y un ritual brasileño.
Entre los eventos, el Tributo permanece como una galería en línea que se actualiza cada año como parte de la Campaña de los 16 Días de Activismo Contra la Violencia de Género (25 de noviembre al 10 de diciembre).
Contribuciones de todo el mundo
Desde 2012, a través de nuestro Tributo anual a las defensoras de derechos humanos que ya no están con nosotrxs, hemos presentado más de 400 feministas y defensorxs de 11 regiones y 80 países.
AWID quiere agradecer a las familias y organizaciones que compartieron sus historias personales y contribuyeron a este homenaje. Nos unimos a ellxs para continuar con el notable trabajo de estas mujeres y redoblar esfuerzos para asegurar que se logre justicia en los casos que permanecen en la impunidad.
La violencia y las amenazas contra las defensoras de derechos humanos persisten
Además de rendir homenaje a estxs increíbles activistas, el Tributo arroja luz sobre la gravedad de la situación de las defensoras de derechos humanos que han sido asesinadas o están desaparecidas.
Un tercio de las personas presentadas en el Tributo fueron activistas asesinadxs o están desaparecidxs en circunstancias sospechosas. Fueron atacadxs específicamente por ser quiénes eran y por haber desafiado:
El poder del Estado
La heteronormatividad
Los fundamentalismos
Las corporaciones
El patriarcado
La delincuencia organizada
La corrupción
La militarización…
Mujeres como Agnes Torres, de México, fueron asesinadas debido a su identidad de género y orientación sexual; o Cheryl Ananayo, una activista ambientalista de Filipinas que fue asesinada mientras luchaba contra una compañía minera; o Ruqia Hassan, una periodista y bloguera independiente siria asesinada por sus críticas al Estado Islámico de Iraq y Levante (EIIL, ISIS en inglés). Y muchas otras.
Con el Tributo a las defensoras de derechos humanos lxs traemos a todxs a nuestra memoria colectiva y llevamos su legado de lucha como nuestra antorcha en los movimientos feministas y por los derechos de las mujeres. Reconocemos que la seguridad y el autocuidado deben ser una prioridad en todas nuestras agendas políticas. Y hacemos un llamamiento a los gobiernos y a los organismos internacionales para que aborden colectivamente la violencia contra lxs feministas y las defensoras de derechos humanos.
Creemos que este es un paso crítico para asegurar la sostenibilidad de nuestros movimientos por la igualdad de género, por los derechos de las mujeres y por justicia para todxs.
