Young Feminist Activism
Organizing creatively, facing an increasing threat
Young feminist activists play a critical role in women’s rights organizations and movements worldwide by bringing up new issues that feminists face today. Their strength, creativity and adaptability are vital to the sustainability of feminist organizing.
At the same time, they face specific impediments to their activism such as limited access to funding and support, lack of capacity-building opportunities, and a significant increase of attacks on young women human rights defenders. This creates a lack of visibility that makes more difficult their inclusion and effective participation within women’s rights movements.
A multigenerational approach
AWID’s young feminist activism program was created to make sure the voices of young women are heard and reflected in feminist discourse. We want to ensure that young feminists have better access to funding, capacity-building opportunities and international processes. In addition to supporting young feminists directly, we are also working with women’s rights activists of all ages on practical models and strategies for effective multigenerational organizing.
Our Actions
We want young feminist activists to play a role in decision-making affecting their rights by:

Fostering community and sharing information through the Young Feminist Wire. Recognizing the importance of online media for the work of young feminists, our team launched the Young Feminist Wire in May 2010 to share information, build capacity through online webinars and e-discussions, and encourage community building.

Researching and building knowledge on young feminist activism, to increase the visibility and impact of young feminist activism within and across women’s rights movements and other key actors such as donors.

Promoting more effective multigenerational organizing, exploring better ways to work together.

Supporting young feminists to engage in global development processes such as those within the United Nations

Collaboration across all of AWID’s priority areas, including the Forum, to ensure young feminists’ key contributions, perspectives, needs and activism are reflected in debates, policies and programs affecting them.

What are the Forum languages?
AWID’s working languages are English, French and Spanish. Thai will be added as the local language, as well as sign language & other accessibility measures. Other languages may be added if funding permits, so check back regularly for updates. We care about language justice and will try to include as many languages as we can and as our resources allow. We hope to create multiple opportunities for many of us to be present in our languages and to communicate with each other.

Pour les personnes qui ne connaissent pas Slack, nous aurons des sessions et des tutoriels d’introduction une fois que vous êtes inscrit·e·s.
Nous travaillons en trois langues (français, anglais, espagnol), et nous vous encourageons donc à écrire dans la langue dans laquelle vous sentez le plus à l’aise et à utiliser des outils de traduction en ligne (Google Traduction ou autres) pour participer aux discussions.

La cocréation de nos réalités féministes commence par nous-mêmes, et nos façons de nous traiter les un·e·s les autres. Nous nous efforçons de créer et de protéger des espaces qui sécurisent et soutiennent nos communautés, à la fois en ligne et en personne. Nous envisageons aussi les espaces sécurisés et accueillants, tout comme cocréés, et dont la possession est partagée. Nous attendons de nos membres d’agir de façon éthique, responsable et cohérente vis-à-vis des valeurs de l’AWID, et d’assumer une responsabilité collective pour garantir un environnement de respect mutuel et de solidarité.
Sujet hebdomadaire :
Dans le cadre de nos échanges continus, nous partagerons un sujet hebdomadaire dans Slack dans le but de faciliter le dialogue et d’inspirer des processus de création artistique. Il pourra s’agir d’un processus introspectif, mais pour tirer le maximum de cette communauté, nous vous encourageons à interagir avec d’autres membres de la communauté, et de partager vos réflexions dans le cadre de discussions. L’objectif est d’inviter les gens à répondre librement et progressivement en écrivant ou en réalisant de l’art, de la manière qui leur convient le mieux.
Nous espérons tenir avec vous des échanges pertinents et vivants, et nous vous invitons donc à partager vos suggestions et vos commentaires. De manière générale, les thèmes se concentreront sur les expériences et les perspectives d’artistes, d’écrivain·e·s et de créateurs·rices -- lesquellesfourniront un espace aux gens pour concevoir à travers et au-delà du contexte mondial actuel via le prisme des réalités féministes.

Lorsque notre travail incarné devient un profit entre les mains de systèmes que nous cherchons à démanteler, il n’est pas étonnant que nos sexualités et nos plaisirs soient une fois de plus relégués à la marge – surtout lorsqu’ils ne sont pas assez rentables. À plusieurs reprises au cours de la production de ce numéro, nous nous sommes demandé ce qui se passerait si nous refusions de nous plier aux services essentiels du capitalisme. Mais pouvons-nous oser poser cette question, lorsque nous sommes épuisé·e·s par le monde? Peut-être que nos sexualités sont si facilement rejetées parce qu’elles ne sont pas considérées comme des formes de soins. Peut-être que ce dont nous avons besoin, c’est de réimaginer le plaisir comme une forme de soin radical – un soin qui est également anticapitaliste et anti-institutionnel.

Hubs: Cross-Border Space Travel
Participants will physically gather at a number of sites outside the Bangkok venue, in different parts of the world, on each day of the Forum. All of these self-organized sites will be virtually connected to the Forum venue in Bangkok. As with individuals connecting online, Hub participants will be able to facilitate activities, participate in conversations and enjoy a rich and diverse program.

La taseografía es el estudio de los posos de café y/o de las hojas de té para la adivinación. Es una práctica que ha sido transmitida por las mujeres del lado armenio de mi familia, y me fue enseñada por mi madre, que a su vez la aprendió de su madre y así sucesivamente. Cuando miraba a mi Nana leer los posos del café armenio preparado para la familia y lxs amigxs, veía muchas veces como ella veía lo que quería decir. Estas impresiones dicen algunas de las cosas que quiero ver en el mundo: espero que sean las mismas cosas que ustedes quieren ver.

Esta impresión celebra la resiliencia, el sacrificio y la fortaleza de lxs luchadorxs por la libertad de SWANA, a través de la historia y la solidaridad existente. La inspiración original provino de un artículo que leí sobre una exposición en Tatvan, un distrito de Bitlis, que mostraba la presencia armenia en la región. Mis antepasadxs eran de Bitlis, que ahora se encuentra dentro de las fronteras de la Turquía moderna.

Ali Cat Leeds (ella/ellx) es una artista y estampadora que vive en las tierras no cedidas de los pueblos Cowlitz y Multnomah y de las tribus confederadas de la comunidad de Grand Ronde en la confluencia de dos ríos, conocida como Portland, Oregón. Produce su trabajo bajo el nombre de Entangled Roots Press. Sus estampas mezclan lo literal y lo metafórico,para iluminar y comentar el mundo que nos rodea. Las impresiones en relieve, de pantalla y tipográficas abarcan desde las masacres de las deforestaciones hasta la belleza de los movimientos populares. Las estampas de Ali se nutren de herstorias [historias de ellas] ancestrales y empujan hacia futuros liberadores, enredando en la hoja de papel impresa los aprendizajes de jardines, los símbolos en las tazas de café y los hilos entretejidos de Armenia y Euskal Herria.

Where is the Money? An Evidence-Driven Call to Resource Feminist Organizing
This new report shines a light on the resourcing realities of feminist and women’s rights organizations amid unprecedented political and financial upheaval. Drawing on over a decade of analysis since AWID last Where is the Money? report (Watering the Leaves, Starving the Roots), it takes stock of the gains, gaps, and growing threats in the funding landscape.
The report celebrates the power of movement-led initiatives to shape resourcing on their own terms, while sounding the alarm on massive aid cuts, shrinking philanthropy, and escalating backlash.
It calls on funders to invest abundantly in feminist organizing as essential infrastructure for justice and liberation. It also invites movements to reimagine bold, self-determined models of resourcing rooted in care, solidarity and collective power.

Suggested Activity Formats
Panel: In Panel discussions, explore an issue or challenge from different perspectives, or share a learning or experience, followed by audience questions if time allows.
Talk Show: Have a more spontaneous conversation in Talk-Show style. Talk Shows can be a conversation among several people, facilitated by a talk-show host. Audience questions can determine the conversation’s direction.
Discussion: These can take the form of world cafes, fishbowls, and other methodologies that facilitate participants’ active involvement in conversations. Highly participatory.
Workshop: Interactive sessions that invite participants to build new skills in any and all areas of life and activism.
Strategy Session: This is an invitation to think through an issue or strategy, in depth, with others. A space to learn from each other: what works, what doesn’t, and how do we develop new and collective strategies to create the worlds we dream of.
Sharing Circle (also known as “Birds of a Feather”): Ideal for small groups, in a more intimate setting, to hear from each other, spark discussion and carefully address topics that may be specific, sensitive and complex.
Arts – Participatory Workshop: Participatory activities involving arts and creative expression. Whether through visual art, theater, film, mural, dance, music, collective craft or artmaking, etc., we welcome all ideas celebrating feminist art and creativity as forms of social change, healing, expression and transformation.
Arts – Performances, Installations and Exhibitions: We welcome submissions that offer Forum participants new experiences and perspectives, expand our horizons, and challenge and inspire us to think, feel and organize in new ways.
Healing: Diverse activities tailored both for groups and individuals, from learning relaxation techniques to discussing burnout prevention, from trauma-informed practices of care for our body, mind and soul to healing rifts within our movements.
