A strengthened approach to membership

As of today, we are excited to offer our members a more open and flexible way to be part of a worldwide feminist community, and contribute to building collective power across movements, based on principles of global solidarity.

Our new membership approach includes:

  • A new sign-up and renewal system, strengthening relationship with our members

  • Changes to the length of membership, rooted in solidarity and sustainability

  • Updated member values and new community guidelines, to co-create a safe space together.

A new sign-up and renewal system: moving to a Contribute What You Can (CWYC) model!

Becoming an AWID member just got easier! As of today, whether you are signing up for the first time or renewing your membership, you can decide the way you want to contribute to the movement: choose from a menu of options the actions you are willing to take (solidarity actions, knowledge production and dissemination, etc.) as well as your choice of a flexible monetary contribution.

There is one exception for organisational members, where we are asking organisations with an annual budget of over $1 million US to make a monetary contribution of at least $100 US on an annual basis.

Take a look at the new sign-up form!

Changes to the length of membership: longer membership terms

In order to create a stronger and more sustainable member community, you will now need to renew your membership only every 5 years (instead of 1, 2 or 3 years previously) with the option to withdraw your AWID membership anytime you wish.

Formal renewals will be sent every 5 years. In between terms, we will continue to share plenty of opportunities to engage with and contribute to.

Updated member values and new community guidelines: co-creating welcoming and safe spaces

At AWID, we are dedicated to creating and protecting safe and supportive spaces for our communities both online and in person. We also consider that safe and welcoming spaces are co-owned and co-created.

As such, we expect our members to:

  • act in a manner that is consistent with AWID’s values
  • assume collective responsibility to ensure an atmosphere of mutual respect and solidarity
