"They are not forgotten", a poem to WHRDs who are no longer with us

They turned their survival of violence into resilience. Like “Mama Masika.

They were leaders. Like Nilce de Souza Magalhães.  And Brenda Marleni Estrada Tambito.

They were journalists. Like Elisabeth Blanche Olofio. And Anna Politkovskaya. And Anabel Flores Salazar.

They safeguarded land and environment. Like Berta Cáceres Flores. And Gloria Capitan. And Ana Fabricia Córdoba Cabrera. And Wangari Maathai.

They advocated for LGBTQI rights. Like Vuyisa Dayisi. And Angy Ferreira. And Sabi Beriani. And Agnes Torres. And Noxolo Nogwaza.

They defended human rights with words and writing, through organizing, by documenting, through law, politics, by lobbying, exposing, protecting. By resisting.

The number of ways in which they defended is countless.
