Paving the Road for Freedom and Equality is a publication of the Mesoamerican Women Human Rights Defenders Inititative that reflects the main achievements, lessons and experiences of the Mesoamerican Women Human Rights Defenders Initiative (IMD) and how it has contributed to the protection of women defenders in Mesoamerica—a region comprised of Mexico and Central America.
Mesoamerican women human rights defenders carry out their justice work in a context of extreme violence, violence against those who dedicate their lives to justice and the defence of universal human rights.
The IMD is a partnership between 6 organizations (JASS, Oaxaca Consortium (Mexico), AWID, UDEFEGUA, the Feminist Collective for Local Development (El Salvador) and the Central American Women’s Fund) and a representative from the National Women Human Rights Defenders Network of Honduras.
