Young Feminist Activism
Organizing creatively, facing an increasing threat
Young feminist activists play a critical role in women’s rights organizations and movements worldwide by bringing up new issues that feminists face today. Their strength, creativity and adaptability are vital to the sustainability of feminist organizing.
At the same time, they face specific impediments to their activism such as limited access to funding and support, lack of capacity-building opportunities, and a significant increase of attacks on young women human rights defenders. This creates a lack of visibility that makes more difficult their inclusion and effective participation within women’s rights movements.
A multigenerational approach
AWID’s young feminist activism program was created to make sure the voices of young women are heard and reflected in feminist discourse. We want to ensure that young feminists have better access to funding, capacity-building opportunities and international processes. In addition to supporting young feminists directly, we are also working with women’s rights activists of all ages on practical models and strategies for effective multigenerational organizing.
Our Actions
We want young feminist activists to play a role in decision-making affecting their rights by:

Fostering community and sharing information through the Young Feminist Wire. Recognizing the importance of online media for the work of young feminists, our team launched the Young Feminist Wire in May 2010 to share information, build capacity through online webinars and e-discussions, and encourage community building.

Researching and building knowledge on young feminist activism, to increase the visibility and impact of young feminist activism within and across women’s rights movements and other key actors such as donors.

Promoting more effective multigenerational organizing, exploring better ways to work together.

Supporting young feminists to engage in global development processes such as those within the United Nations

Collaboration across all of AWID’s priority areas, including the Forum, to ensure young feminists’ key contributions, perspectives, needs and activism are reflected in debates, policies and programs affecting them.

Priscilla Hon
Biography
Priscilla has nearly two decades of experience working in the non-profit sector with social justice organizations that worked on women and youth rights, conservation, peacebuilding and development. Her interests are in setting up progressive processes and systems that will help an organization live to their values and principles and thrive, and finding ways to support organizations and fundraisers to locate and secure the resourcing they need to do good work. . Priscilla joined AWID in 2018 as Resource Mobilization Manager and in July 2023, took on the role of Director of Operations and Funding Partnerships.
Priscilla holds an MSc in International Politics from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), a growing pile of books she is still trying to find time to read, and sits on the Board of Hodan Somali Community, a London-based charity.

Nadyn Jouny
Lo personal es político, y la apasionada y valiente Nadyn Jouny personificó este mantra feminista. Nadyn experimentó de primera mano el dolor de la violencia estructural de los sistemas legales que despojan a las mujeres de sus derechos.
Cuando Nadyn decidió solicitar el divorcio, los tribunales religiosos chiítas, bajo las Leyes de Estatuto Personal Libanesas, le negaron la custodia de su joven hijo Karam. Nadyn, como tantas otras mujeres del Líbano y de otros países, se vio atrapada entre el dolor imposible de dejar una relación no deseada y abusiva y de perder a la vez los derechos sobre su hijo. Sin embargo, Nadyn se defendió, y lo habría de hacerlo hasta el último día.
Nadyn utilizó su habilidad con los medios de comunicación para convertirse en una voz franca a favor de las mujeres que luchan contra la discriminación en la legislación familiar, en el Líbano y a nivel internacional. Nadyn cofundó el grupo autofinanciado "Protecting Lebanese Women" [Protegiendo a las Mujeres Libanesas] (PLW, por sus siglas en inglés) y se unió a muchas otras madres libanesas que se enfrentaban a problemas similares de custodia. Juntas, trabajaron para crear conciencia sobre las injusticias extremas a las que se enfrentaban, a nivel nacional, protestaron ante los tribunales religiosos por sus derechos y, a nivel internacional, llamaron la atención de los medios de comunicación.
Nadyn también trabajó con ABAAD - Resource Center for Gender Equality [Centro de Recursos para la Igualdad de Género], otra organización por los derechos de las mujeres en el Líbano, para realizar campañas en favor de los derechos de las mujeres, la igualdad en la legislación familiar y relativa a las custodias y contra los matrimonios forzados y precoces.
Para muchxs de sus colegas, Nadyn llegó a "simbolizar la lucha de una madre libanesa contra la supresión y la misoginia de todo tipo" (en inglés), al utilizar "su experiencia personal y trayectoria individual de empoderamiento, dio a otras mujeres esperanza para que ellas también pudieran ser un catalizador para el cambio positivo" - ABAAD - Centro de Recursos para la Igualdad entre los Géneros, Líbano.
El 6 de octubre de 2019, Nadyn murió trágicamente en un accidente de automóvil cuando se dirigía a protestar por los injustos aumentos de impuestos en un país que ya se enfrentaba a una espiral de crisis financiera. Nadyn Jouny tenía solo 29 años en el momento de su muerte.

Biography
Faye es una apasionada feminista panafricana, que trabaja activamente en diversos movimientos por los derechos de las mujeres, la justicia racial, los derechos de las personas migrantes y los derechos laborales, y por la justicia ambiental. Su activismo se basa en el legado de la lucha contra el apartheid en Sudáfrica y las consecuencias de la era del apartheid en Zimbabue.
En 2019, Faye se sumó a AWID como Directora de Finanzas, Operaciones y Desarrollo y dedicó sus esfuerzos a garantizar que AWID defienda los principios y valores feministas en todas sus operaciones. Aporta más de 20 años de experiencia en liderazgo y estrategias feministas y en todos los aspectos de las finanzas y el desarrollo institucional.

Janet Benshoof
Janet Benshoof était une avocate des droits humains oeuvrant aux États-Unis et défenseure de l’égalité des femmes et de leurs droits sexuels et reproductifs.
Elle a milité pour l’élargissement de l’accès à la contraception et à l’avortement dans le monde entier, et s’est battue contre des décisions anti-avortement dans le territoire américain de Guam. Arrêtée en 1990 pour son opposition à la loi anti-avortement la plus restrictive de son pays, elle a remporté une mise en demeure [MB1] au tribunal local à Guam qui a bloqué la loi, pour ensuite remporter l’affaire devant la Cour d’Appel de Ninth Circuit, décision qui devait supprimer définitivement celle-ci.

Janet a créé plusieurs précédents juridiques, dont l’approbation par l’US Food and Drug Administration de la contraception d’urgence, ainsi que l’application du droit international afin de garantir leurs droits aux victimes de viol lors des poursuites pour crimes de guerre de l’époque de Saddam Hussein, devant la Cour Suprême iraqienne.
Janet était présidente et fondatrice du Global Justice Center, ainsi que fondatrice du Center for Reproductive Rights, la première organisation internationale pour les droits humains, centrée sur le choix reproductif et l’égalité. Elle a siégé pendant 15 ans en tant que directrice du projet pour les droits reproductifs de l’American Civil Liberties Union, où elle a mené de nombreuses procédures juridiques qui ont contribué à façonner la loi constitutionnelle des États-Unis sur l’égalité de genre, la liberté d’expression et les droits reproductifs.

Née en mai 1947, Janet est décédée en décembre 2017.

Juhi est passionnée de technologie, titulaire d'une licence en génie informatique de l'Université Technologique du Gujarat et d'une formation de troisième cycle en télécommunications sans fil et en gestion de projet du Humber College. Passionnée par la résolution de problèmes et aimant garder une longueur d'avance dans un paysage technologique en constante évolution, Juhi s'est retrouvée à naviguer dans divers secteurs en tant que technicienne informatique. Grâce à l'environnement stimulant de la School Board, Juhi a eu l'occasion d'appliquer ses compétences techniques dans divers contextes, relevant toujours de nouveaux défis avec enthousiasme. Au-delà du code et des circuits, Juhi aime les aventures de la vie. Explorer de nouveaux lieux et cultures constitue pour elle une bouffée d’air frais. Qu'il s'agisse de découvrir des trésors cachés de la ville, d'essayer des cuisines exotiques ou de se lancer dans des sports d'aventure palpitants, Juhi est toujours partante pour de nouvelles expériences.

Mena Mangal
Mena Mangal was a prominent TV journalist, women’s rights advocate and cultural adviser to Wolesi Jirga, the lower house of Afghanistan's national parliament.
For more than a decade, she worked for Ariana TV, Tolo TV's Pashto-language channel Lamar, and the private Afghan national television broadcaster Shamshad TV. As a presenter, Mena focused on women’s rights and cultural talk shows.
"Women's rights activist Wazhma Frogh said Mangal "had a loud voice" and actively spoke out as an advocate for her people."
Off-screen, she also ran popular social media pages that advocated for the rights of Afghan girls and women to education and work. In terms of her private life, Mena wrote extensively about being forced into an arranged marriage in 2017 and the process she had to go through to finally obtain a divorce.
In a Facebook post, Mena wrote she was receiving death threats from unknown sources but would continue to carry out her work.
On 11 May 2019, she was attacked by unknown gunmen and shot dead in broad daylight in a public space in Southeast Kabul.

تقديم كتاب الحواس الأسود The Black Book of Senses
يومَ دعتني أنجليكا وفابي لأكون القَيِّمة على تشكيلة نصوص شبقية من تحرير نسوة سود لم أكن أعرف ما يعنيه عملُ القيِّم. الشبق ومشتقاته، هذه فهمتها جيداً، لكن عمل القَيِّم... ابتسمت تحت وطأة الخجل والإطراء. أظن أنّي شكرتهما، على الأقلّ آمل أنّي شكرتهما، وقلت في ذاتي: ماذا تعني هذه الكلمة اللعينة؟! حسناً، سأضطر إلى سَبر معاني هذا اللقب المُبهرَج وأنا أطبّقه.
اليوم، أنا على دراية بما يعينه عمل القيِّم. هو بمثابة ممارسة الحبّ مع نصوص شخصٍ آخر، مع فنّ شخصٍ آخر، بغية تجميع كتاب وتنظيمه. وهذا تماماً ما قمت به. عرّيت بشهوانية أدبية كلّ نصّ لكلٍّ من الكاتبات. تعمّقت في كلمات وحواس الآخرين. ولَجَتني قصائدُ لم أكتبها. حكايات ما كنت لأجرؤ على تخيّلها قلبتني رأساً على عقب وأربكت مشاعري وعبثت بشهوتي الجنسية. وكانت نشوةٌ رائعة وفريدة: سماويّة وجسمانيّة وسامية في آنٍ واحد، فكريّة وحسّيّة.
تنبض هذه النصوص كالبظر المنتصب رغبةً، رطبةٌ، ينسال منها الفرح مع كلّ قراءة. كلمات ابتلعتني بإيحاءتها اللعوبة، تأخذني أعمق فأعمق في هذا العالم الرّطب.
غطست هذه النسوة السود إلى قعرِ هَيْجِهنّ وحوّلن أعمق تخيّلاتهنّ الشبقيّة إلى فنٍّ.
أُخْصِبَت هذه الأعمال بأسلوبِ كلٍّ من الكاتبات الخاصّ في التجربة الجنسانية، بحريّة، بسوداوية، بأنفسنا، بطريقتنا الخاصّة، بتمكّن.
اخترت أن أوزّع هذه النصوص في مختلف أجزاء الكتاب ونظّمتها بحسب محتواها الأكثر رقّة أو انفعالية أو بديهية أو ضمنيّة.
استهلالاً لهذا «اللبّ الأسود المفترج»، تأتي أقسام ’التمهيدات‘ (Preliminaries) بنصوصها التي تقدّم لمحةً للقرّاء عن عالم الأطايب هذا، وهي بمثابة لمسَة شاملة رقيقة تُعرِّف بالمواضيع التي تطرحها النصوص في باقي الكتاب.
يلي ذلك لهيبُ ’اللمس‘ (Touch) وهو جزءٌ يُعنى بكلّ ما تشعر به البشرة. تلك الطاقة التي تحرق أو تُثلِج أجسادنا، التي تفجّر هُرموناتنا وتوقظ حواسنا الأخرى. صحيحٌ أنّ كثيرين بيننا يستمتعون بشهوة التلصُّص، لكنّ ملامسة البشرة بالفم الدافئ والرّطب مثيرٌ، وهو كالتطواف في نعومة الآخر. تُغرينا اللمسة اللطيفة أو الحازمة وتجتاحنا القشعريرة، وذلك التوتّر الجميل الذي يسري من العنق إلى الظهر ولا يختفي إلا اليومَ التالي. ودفء الشفاه والفم واللسان الرّطب على البشرة، آه من حلاوة لسانٍ ينساب داخل الأذن، أو احتكاك الجلد بالجلد، والملابس تتموّج على الجسد وكأنّها امتدادٌ لليدّ. ولمّا يكون التروّي جزءاً من المتعة، وتعصف بك الإثارة بفعل قبضة مُحْكَمة وبعضٍ من الألم – أو الكثير منه، من يدري؟
أمّا ’الصوت‘ (Sound) – أو اللحن؟ – فيبيّن لنا أنّ الانجذاب يحصل أيضاً عبر حاسّة السمع: صوت الشخص، الهمسات، الموسيقى التي تشعل التواصل بين جسدٍ وآخر وقد تمسي محورَ الرغبة. فبالنسبة لبعضٍ منّا، لا يتطلّب الأمر إلّا الأوتار الصوتية لشخصٍ ذي صوتٍ جميل، فذاك الصوت الأجشّ أو العميق أو الرخيم يكون كممارسة الجنس سمعياً. أن نسمع سِبابَهم الصارخ أو كلامهم المعسول همساً في الأذن يكفي لتجتاحنا قشعريرة الإثارة من الرأس إلى أخمص القدميْن.
في ’المذاق‘ (Flavor)، نأتي إلى اللسان وهو الخبير في استكشاف الخبايا يجول هائماً على جسد الآخر ويتلذّذ. وأحياناً يُقحَم اللسان قحماً لتذوُّق رحيق الآخر. فكرة أن يُشاركنا أحدٌ فراولته أو مانغته الشهيّة الملأى، بالعضّ واللحس، أو اللحس ثم العضّ، فكرةٌ كفيلة بإذابتنا. لكن لا شيء يعلو على حلاوة تذوُّق جسد الآخر بكهوفه وتلاله. إقحامُ اللسان في العمق لتذوُّق الثمرة، أو قضاءُ ساعاتٍ في تذوُّق رأس القضيب في الفم، أو رضعُ ثدي شهيّ لتذوُّق الحلمة... كلّها أفعال تسعى إلى حفظ ’مذاق‘ الآخر في الذاكرة.
نجد أيضاً نصوصاً تصف كيف تُستثار الرغبة عبر الأنف. ’الرائحة‘ (Smell)، أعزائي القرّاء، قد توقظ فينا شهوات الرغبة. أحياناً نلتقي شخصاً رائحته عبقة لدرجة أننا نودّ التهامه بأنفنا. يريد الأنف أن يجول في أنحاء الجسد ويبدأ من العنق وآهٍ من الرعشة الحلوة التي تصيبنا وتعرّي الروح! يقلّ حياء الأنف فيتعمَّق ويلفّ حول العنق ليلتقط عَبَق رائحة الآخر فيحفظها. وفي غياب هذا الشخص، إن إلتقط الأنف رائحة شبيهة يحضر الشخص في ذاكرتنا، أو إن استحضرته الذاكرة تجتاحنا الرائحة والإثارة.
نصل إلى ’النظر‘ (Look)، وهو برأيي غدّار الحواس، ومن خلاله ندرك الرغبة من وجهة «نظر». هنا النصوص تصف الرغبة والإثارة عبر حاسة النظر التي توقظ باقي الحواس. أحياناً، ابتسامةٌ تكفي لِنُصاب بالجنون. تبادُل النظرات؟ تلك النظرة التي تقول «أريدك الآن». نظرة التملّك تلك التي لا تنكسر إلا مع انتهاء المضاجعة، وقد تدوم بعدها. هذه نظرة فريدة من نوعها، تجذب الآخر فيعجز عن إشاحة نظره لوقتٍ طويل. والنظرات المُسترَقة حيث يشيح واحدٌ بنظره ما أن يلتفت إليه الآخر كأنّهما في مطاردة كالقط والفأر. وما أن تلتقي الأعين وينفضح أمرنا جُلّ ما يمكننا فعله هو أن تنفرج أساريرنا بابتسامة فاغرة.
ختاماً، يأتي الانفجار في جزء ’الحواس كافة‘ (All Senses) حيث النصوص تمزج المشاعر لتبدو كحالة تأهّب لنصل إلى اللذة القصوى، إلى النشوة.
طبعاً، لا شيء يفصل بوضوح بين هذه القصائد والحكايات. بعضها رقيقٌ بتلميحه. الإثارة تُشغِل الحواس كافّة، والأهمّ أنّها تُشغِل الرأس، فهُنا مقام كلّ ما يحدث والجسد بكامله يستجيب. لقد نظَّمتُ القصائد وفقاً لما أثارته فيّ عند قراءتها، ولكم الحريّة في مخالفة رأيي هذا. لكن بالنسبة لي، الرغبة تنبع من حاسّة معيّنة ومن ثم تنفجر، وثمّة لذّة في تتبّع مسار الرغبة وتحديد أيٍّ من الحواس استقلّت.
إنّ القدرة على تحويل الإثارة إلى فنّ تعني تحرير أنفسِنا من الأحكام المسبقة والسجون ووصمات العار كلّها التي حبَسَنا فيها هذا المجتمع المُتمَحوِر حول العرق الأبيض.
كلّما تقوم كاتبة سوداء بتحويل الشبقيّ إلى فنّ فهي تخلع السلاسل العنصرية المؤذية التي تشلّ جسدها وتقمع جنسانيتها وتجعل منّا غرضاً لجشع الآخرين. إنّ كتابة الشعر الشبقيّ هي استعادة لسلطتها على جسدها وهي التنقّل بلا خوف بين ملذّات الرغبة من أجل ذاتها ومن أجل الآخرين ومن أجل الحياة.
الكتابات الأدبية الشبقيّة هي نحن عندما نتّخذ الشكل الفنّي. الشكل الذي يتيح لنا إظهار أفضل ما لدينا وآرائنا في الحبّ الملأى لذّة والمتبّلة بشهوة أجسادنا والتي تُترجَم عبر وَعْينا الفنّي. نحن متنوّعات، وهنا نشارككم هذا التنوّع في الأحاسيس عبر الكلمات المُشبَعَة إثارة. صحيح، حتّى كلماتنا ترشَح برغبتنا الجنسية وترطّب آياتنا وتجعل من شهواتنا قصائدَ. النشوة، بالنسبة لنا، إنجاز.
أن تكون عقولنا وأجسادنا وجنسانياتنا سوداء هو أمرٌ ضروري لاستئناف لذّتنا واستعادة نشوتنا. عندها فحسب نصير أحراراً. هذه العملية برمّتها إنجازٌ وهي لا تخلو من الألم. لكنّه من المفرح أن نجد أنفسنا في مكان مختلف جداً عن حيث تمّ وضعنا.
أشعر أنّي لكنّ/لكم، أنّي لنا. تذوّقوا هذه الكلمات العذبة معنا، تلذّذوا بها، ولْتَكُن وليمة.
