In September 2016, the 13th AWID international Forum brought together in Brazil over 1800 feminists and women’s rights advocates in a spirit of resistance and resilience.
This section highlights the gains, learnings and resources that came out of our rich conversations. We invite you to explore, share and comment!
What has happened since 2016?
One of the key takeaways from the 2016 Forum was the need to broaden and deepen our cross-movement work to address rising fascisms, fundamentalisms, corporate greed and climate change.
With this in mind, we have been working with multiple allies to grow these seeds of resistance:
- Our Seed Initiatives, has helped 20 ideas that emerged at the Forum to grow into concrete actions
- The video “Defending people and planet” and guide “Weaving resistance through action” put courageous WHRDs in the spotlight and present concrete strategies they use to confront corporate power.
- With our animations about the State of Our Feminist Movements and Climate and Environmental Justice, movements now have creative tools to support their advocacy work.
- The compiling artistic expressions of our #MovementsMatter series continues to inspire stronger and more creative organizing around the world.
- Movements can also benefit from new methodologies on Visioning Feminist Futures (Coming up soon!)
And through our next strategic plan and Forum process, we are committed to keep developing ideas and deepen the learnings ignited at the 2016 Forum.
What happens now?
The world is a much different place than it was a year ago, and it will continue to change.
The next AWID Forum will take place in the Asia Pacific region (exact location and dates to be announced in 2018).

About the AWID Forum
AWID Forums started in 1983, in Washington DC. Since then, the event has grown to become many things to many peoples: an iterative process of sharpening our analyses, vision and actions; a watershed moment that reinvigorates participants’ feminisms and energizes their organizing; and a political home for women human rights defenders to find sanctuary and solidarity.

Nous Sommes la Solution es un movimiento de mujeres rurales por la soberanía alimentaria en África Occidental. Originalmente fundada como una campaña contra la agricultura hiper-industrializada, Nous Sommes la Solution se ha convertido en un movimiento de más de 500 asociaciones de mujeres rurales de Burkina Faso, Senegal, Ghana, Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Malí y Guinea.
Este movimiento liderado por mujeres está construyendo y fortaleciendo la soberanía alimentaria y de semillas en África Occidental. Alimentan a las comunidades, fortalecen las economías locales, amplían el conocimiento de las mujeres agricultoras y mitigan los efectos devastadores de la crisis climática a través de las prácticas agroecológicas. También organizan talleres, foros y transmisiones de radio comunitarias para compartir sus mensajes, conocimientos tradicionales y prácticas agroecológicas en las comunidades rurales.
En colaboración con universidades y centros públicos de investigación, Nous Sommes la Solution trabaja para restaurar las variedades indígenas de arroz (un alimento esencial de África Occidental) y promover economías alimentarias locales basadas en principios agroecológicos para influir en la formulación de políticas nacionales, mientras apoya a las mujeres en la creación de asociaciones agrícolas y su acceso a la propiedad y gestión colectiva de las tierras agrícolas.

The data will be processed for statistical purposes to shed light on the state of resourcing for feminist movements globally and will only be displayed in an aggregate form. AWID will not publish information about a particular organization or display information that would allow an organization to be identified by its location or characteristics, without their prior consent.

Wenn ich in Gesellschaft bin, bin ich unbeholfen. Se basa en los 20 años de historia de AWID movilizando más y mejor financiamiento para el cambio social encabezado por los feminismos, y se trata de la tercera edición de la investigación ¿Dónde está el dinero para las organizaciones feministas? Aspiramos a repetir la encuesta ¿Dónde está el dinero? cada tres años.
2003: le premier Dialogue de haut niveau a lieu
Premier Dialogue de haut niveau sur le financement du développement, 29-30 octobre 2003.
Les dialogues de haut niveau de l’Assemble générale des Nations Unies sur le financement du développement, tenus tous les deux ans, sont l’un des mécanismes de suivi de la Conférence de Monterrey. À la suite de ce premier dialogue, huit tables rondes ont été organisées autour de différentes questions comprenant les subventions agricoles, le commerce, l’allègement de la dette et le financement des OMD. Toutes les discussions se concentraient sur les manières de faire face aux obstacles structurels qui pesaient sur ces questions et défavorisaient les nations « en développement ».
D'autres mécanismes de suivi de la Conférence de Monterrey :
- Les réunions spéciales de haut niveau du Conseil économique et social des Nations Unies (ECOSOC) tenues chaque année sur le thème du suivi du Consensus de Monterrey et sous la direction de la Banque mondiale, du Fonds monétaire international, de l’Organisation mondiale du commerce et de la CNUCED. En outre, au cours de chacune de ses sessions de fond, l’ECOSOC consacre jusqu’à deux jours à des délibérations portant sur les priorités du FdD.
- L’organe des Nations Unies consacré aux questions fiscales, le Comité d'experts de la coopération internationale en matière fiscale, traite des différentes questions relatives aux politiques fiscales qui ont été identifiées dans le Consensus de Monterrey. Il constitue un cadre de dialogue visant à améliorer et à encourager la coopération fiscale internationale entre les autorités fiscales nationales.
