Una organización creativa, frente a una creciente amenaza
El activismo joven feminista juega un papel fundamental en las organizaciones y los movimientos por los derechos de las mujeres a nivel mundial, ya que aborda los nuevos problemas a los que las feministas se enfrentan en la actualidad. Esta fuerza, creatividad y adaptabilidad son esenciales para la sostenibilidad de la organización feminista.
A la vez, enfrentan obstáculos específicos para ejercer su activismo, como acceso limitado al financiamiento y al apoyo, falta de oportunidades de capacitación, un incremento considerable de los ataques contra las jóvenes defensoras de los derechos humanos. Esto crea una falta de visibilidad que hace más complicada su inclusión y participación efectiva en los movimientos por los derechos de las mujeres.
Un enfoque multigeneracional
El programa de activismo joven feminista fue creado para garantizar que las voces de las jóvenes sean escuchadas y se vean reflejadas en el discurso feminista. Queremos garantizar que las jóvenes feministas tengan un mejor acceso al financiamiento, a las oportunidades de desarrollo de las capacidades y a los procesos internacionales.

Dada la importancia de los medios virtuales para el trabajo de las jóvenes feministas, nuestro equipo lanzó la Conexión Joven Feminista en mayo de 2010 para compartir información, construir capacidades a través de seminarios web y discusiones electrónicas y para alentar la construcción de la comunidad.
Investigación y generación de conocimientos sobre el activismo joven feminista, que aumenten la visibilidad y el impacto del activismo joven feminista en los movimientos por los derechos de las mujeres y otros actores clave, como los donantes.
Promoción de procesos más efectivos de organización intergeneracional, explorando mejores formas de trabajar en conjunto.

The search for alternative means of food production based on environmental sustainability is gaining ground across regions. This worldwide search comes with a common characteristic: the need to involve rural people and particularly women, building on their local priorities and knowledge by employing the principle of agroecology.
Definition
Agroecology is a way of practicing agriculture or using technologies that do not harm the environment. It proposes breaking with the hegemonic rural development model based on large landed estates and single-crop plantations that benefit mostly agricultural businesses and entrenches social exclusion.
In family farming, agroecology manifests as a resistance to the current development model and its social, cultural, environmental, and economic problems. It opposes the lack of the farmer’s financial capital autonomy; and it symbolizes a resistance to the current agribusiness model.
Feminist perspective
Efforts based solely on agroecology may not be sufficient to solve all problems of women’s marginalization and invisibility. A feminist perspective is then crucial to analyze the norms associated with the idea of family as currently constituted as the perfect institution, as well as with the condition of women’s subordination.
In simpler terms, it is important to include in this debate a reflection on socially constructed gender roles to advance the emancipatory potential of agroecology.

AWID en 2016: Co-creando nuestros futuros feministas
En 2016 convocamos el 13º Foro Internacional de AWID en Bahía, Brasil, al que asistieron 1800 participantes de 120 países y territorios de todo el mundo. El Foro fue un espacio muy necesario para la construcción de estrategias y alianzas con feministas y otros movimientos de justicia.
Sabemos que los movimientos por lo derechos de las mujeres y feministas son actores clave en la creación de un cambio transformador sostenible. En nuestros movimientos, la organización, resistencia y respuesta al contexto desafiante se está agudizando, y en nuestro mundo cada vez más conectado, el potencial para la acción colectiva a través de diversos movimientos ha crecido dramáticamente. Este es el trabajo crucial que AWID busca amplificar y apoyar. Nos proponemos informar y equipar a organizaciones y movimientos por los derechos de las mujeres para responder a las oportunidades y contrarrestar las amenazas. Apoyamos una mayor visibilidad y comprensión de las iniciativas por los derechos de las mujeres y las amenazas que enfrentan, y también trabajamos para influenciar a lxs actores e instituciones que dan forma a los derechos humanos y a los resultados de desarrollo.

Mayor solidaridad y acción conjunta en diversos movimientos
El innovador 13º Foro Internacional de AWID se realizó del 8 al 11 de septiembre de 2016 en Bahía, Brasil, con el tema: «Futuros Feministas: Construyendo poder colectivo por los derechos y la justicia». Si bien gran parte de la energía de AWID en 2016 se dedicó al proceso del Foro, también se valió del pensamiento y la energía de casi 500 aliadxs, presentadorxs, panelistas, moderadorxs, artivistas, escritorxs, facilitadorxs, innovadorxs de TI y artistas de performance, muchxs de ellxs líderes en su campo. También, en reconocimiento a la historia y la lucha de Bahía, albergamos al Foro de Feminismos Negros (BFF, por su sigla en inglés), de dos días, organizado por un grupo de trabajo conformado por feministas negrxs de todo el mundo.
El fortalecimiento del conocimiento de temas y estrategias
SOBRE DESAFIAR AL PODER CORPORATIVO. Produjimos Desafiar al poder corporativo: las luchas por los derechos de las mujeres, la justicia económica y de género junto con el Solidarity Center, revelando la escala y el alcance del poder corporativo y describiendo cómo las corporaciones en connivencia con élites y otros actores poderosos están teniendo impacto en las vidas de las mujeres y los pueblos oprimidos. El informe ofrece ideas sobre estrategias de resistencia, destacando cinco luchas que utilizaron la colaboración entre movimientos para desafiar al poder corporativo.
SOBRE ECONOMÍAS FEMINISTAS. Produjimos Propuestas feministas para una economía justa juntamente al Centro para el Liderazgo Mundial de las Mujeres (CWGL, por su sigla en inglés) y la Red de Mujeres Africanas para el Desarrollo y la Comunicación FEMNET. Propuestas Feministas es una plataforma en internet que propone una agenda feminista para el desarrollo y la justicia
económica y de género.
SOBRE DESAFIAR A LOS FUNDAMENTALISMOS. El diablo se esconde en los detalles: En el nexo entre el desarrollo, los derechos de las mujeres y los fundamentalismos religiosos detalla cómo los fundamentalismos religiosos limitan el desarrollo y los derechos de las mujeres en particular y proporciona recomendaciones a lxs actores del desarrollo para fortalecer los derechos de las mujeres.
SOBRE ACTIVISMO JOVEN FEMINISTA. Junto a FRIDA lanzamos Valientes, creativxs, resilientes: La situación a nivel global de la organización de jóvenes feministas en el Espacio de Activismo Joven Feminista durante el Foro de AWID. Este proyecto de descripción del estado del activismo feminista joven se basa en los datos recopilados de 1360 solicitudes de subvenciones recibidas por FRIDA entre los años de 2012 y 2014 y una encuesta global, que contó con 694 respuestas de 118 países diferentes.
La incidencia colectiva
AWID, en asociación con otras organizaciones feministas y por los derechos de las mujeres, se involucró en la incidencia y el diálogo para explorar mejores soluciones para las agendas de derechos de las mujeres, como nuestro trabajo con el consorsio Count Me In!
El aumento de la visibilidad de los movimientos
Las experiencias de mujeres con discapacidad, mujeres negras y afrodescendientes, trabajadorxs sexuales, mujeres indígenas, personas trans y personas intersexuales, trabajadorxs domesticxs
y cómo sus vidas se ven afectadas por múltiples opresiones y violencias estuvieron en el centro del proceso del Foro.
Durante los 16 Días de activismo, y gracias a las contribuciones de nuestrxs increíbles afiliadxs, lanzamos el Tributo a lxs defensorxs de derechos humanos 2016 para celebrar la vida de lxs defensorxs que ya no están con nosotrxs.
Nuestra colaboración con The Guardian y Mama Cash: la sección de enfoque en derechos de las mujeres e igualdad de género del portal de desarrollo global de The Guardian ha resultado en una mayor atención a los grupos y temas
que no suelen recibir la cobertura adecuada de los medios de comunicación dominantes.

Crear | Résister | Transform : visite guidée du Festival
Alors que le capitalisme hétéropatriarcal s’acharne à nous contraindre au consumérisme et à la conformité, nous constatons que nos luttes sont cloisonnées et séparées par des frontières aussi bien physiques que virtuelles.
Avec les défis supplémentaires d’une pandémie mondiale à surmonter, cette stratégie du « diviser pour mieux régner » a favorisé l’expansion de l’exploitation dans de nombreux domaines.
Malgré tout, du 1er au 30 septembre 2021, le festival Crear | Résister | Transform : un festival dédié aux mouvements féministes ! de l’AWID nous a emmené·e·s à la découverte de ce que cela signifiait d’incarner nos réalités dans des espaces virtuels. Lors du festival, des activistes féministes du monde entier se sont réuni·e·s non seulement pour partager des expériences de libertés, de résistances et de solidarités transfrontalières durement gagnées, mais aussi pour exprimer ce à quoi pourrait ressembler une forme transnationale d’unité.
C’est précisément cette unité qui a le potentiel de dépasser les frontières, permettant de tisser une vision de l’avenir qui est transformatrice parce qu’abolitionniste et anticapitaliste. À travers des infrastructures numériques que nous avons investies avec notre queerness, notre résistance et nos imaginaires, le festival a présenté un moyen de se détourner des systèmes qui nous rendent complices de l’oppression des autres et de nous-mêmes.
Si Audre Lorde nous a appris que « les outils du maître ne détruiront jamais la maison du maître », Sara Ahmed nous a montré en revanche que nous pouvons en faire mauvais usage. Le fait d’avoir à créer un espace de rassemblement, en dépit de toutes les autres contraintes pesant sur nos emplois du temps, nous a permis d’imaginer une façon de rompre avec la réalité du capitalisme hétéropatriarcal.
Maintenant, si nous comprenons le rassemblement comme une forme de plaisir, il devient alors possible de faire le lien entre le plaisir transgressif et la résistance transnationale/transdigitale; entre les types de plaisir qui bousculent les frontières d’une part, et la queerness, la théâtralité, la lutte pour la terre et les autochtones, l’anticapitalisme et l’organisation anticoloniale d’autre part.
La présente édition a tenté de donner une idée de la manière dont l’exercice de rassemblement du festival a revêtu de multiples formes et imaginations. Au-delà des collaborations directes avec certain·e·s de ses orateurices et rêveur·se·s, nous avons fait appel à une pléthore d’autres voix du Sud mondial pour aborder plusieurs de ces sujets et thématiques. Member states and women's rights advocates and organisations are gathering at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from 13 - 24 March for the 61st Commission on the Status of Women to address ‘women’s economic empowerment’ in the context of Sustainable Development Goal 5.

Who is Nayani?
Nayani Thiyagarajah is a director, producer, and writer, dedicated to stories for the screen. A daughter of the Tamil diaspora, she calls Toronto home. For over 10 years, Nayani has worked in the arts and cultural industries. Her first independent feature documentary Shadeism: Digging Deeper (2015) had its World Premiere at the 2015 Zanzibar International Film Festival, where it won a Special Jury Prize. Nayani recently launched [RE]FRAME, with her producing partner Camaro West, a production company based out of Atlanta and Toronto, focused on re-framing the narratives around Black, Indigenous, and other people of colour through storytelling on screen.
On a more serious note, it should be noted that Nayani has a strange laugh, she's quite awkward, and her head is always in the clouds. She feels blessed beyond belief to create stories for the screen and play make believe for a living. Above all else, she believes in love.

The AWID International Forum is both a global community event and a space of radical personal transformation. A one-of-a-kind convening, the Forum brings together feminist, women’s rights, gender justice, LBTQI+ and allied movements, in all our diversity and humanity, to connect, heal and thrive. The Forum is a place where Global South feminists and historically marginalized communities take center stage, strategizing with each other and allied movements, funders and policy-makers, in order to shift power, make alliances, and usher in a different, better world.

En 2021, AWID, junto con muchas otras organizaciones, comenzábamos a asumir las consecuencias de la pandemia global, todavía en curso, para nuestro modo de trabajo y nuestro rol en este momento tan particular. Fue un año que nos enseñó tres lecciones cruciales sobre cómo transitar este momento como organización global de apoyo a los movimientos feministas.
Gracias al diálogo e intercambios fundamentales para su trabajo, AWID conectó a miles de feministas de todo el mundo.
Lo que nos queda claro de nuestra experiencia en 2021 es el rol preponderante -y de alguna forma singular- que AWID desempeña en la construcción y el sostenimiento de una comunidad feminista global transversal a diversas identidades y temas.

Pensé pour tous les mouvements qui évoluent au sein des crises climatiques mondiales, ce jeu de cartes propose de jouer et d’élaborer des stratégies en s’appuyant sur des scénarios de la vie réelle. Un moyen créatif de réfléchir aux stratégies lors de réunions, d’ateliers et de rassemblements de la communauté !
While active participants on the front lines of protests and uprisings in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), women became invisible, absent from processes of formation of the new states, and excluded from decision-making roles, responsibilities, and positions in the aftermath of the uprisings. Except in rare cases, men dominated leadership positions in transitional structures, including the constitutional reform and electoral committees[i]. Subsequent elections brought very few women to parliamentary and ministerial positions.
Additionally, a strong and immediate backlash against women and women’s rights has clearly emerged in the aftermath. The rise of new religious fundamentalist groups with renewed patriarchal agendas aiming to obliterate previous gains of the women’s movements even in countries with longer histories of women’s rights, such as Tunisia, has been very alarming.
The varying contexts of governance and transition processes across the MENA countries presents an important opportunity for women human rights defenders to shape the future of these democracies. However, the lack of prioritization of women’s rights issues in the emerging transitions and the aforementioned backlash have posed a variety of complex challenges for the women’s movements. Faced with these enormous challenges and possibilities, women’s rights activists have been struggling to forge ahead a democratic future inclusive and only possible with women’s rights and equality. The particular historical and contextual legacies that impact women’s movements in each country continue to bear on the current capacities, strategies, and overall preparedness of the women’s movements to take on such a challenge. Burdened with daily human rights violations in one context, with lack of resources and tools in another, with organizational tensions in a third, in addition to the constant attacks on them as activists, women human rights defenders have voiced their desire to be more equipped with knowledge and tools to be effective and proactive in engaging with these fast-changing environments. Conceptual clarity and greater understanding of notions and practices of democratization, transitional justice tools and mechanisms, political governance and participation processes, international and local mechanisms, movement building strategies, constitutional reform possibilities, and secularization of public space and government are important steps to defining future strategic action.
It is clear that feminists and women’s rights activists cannot wait for women’s rights to be addressed after transitions – issues must be addressed as the new power configurations are forming. Experiences of earlier moments of transition, namely from colonial rule, have clearly demonstrated that women’s rights have to be inherently part of the transition movement towards a more just and equal society.
What is included?
This publication represents a research mapping of key resources, publications and materials on transitions to democracy and women’s rights in different countries of the world that have undergone such processes, such as: Indonesia, Chile, South Africa, Nepal, Mexico, Argentina, Poland, Ukraine, as well as within the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). It provides bibliographic information and short summaries of resources which succinctly identify the contextual changes and challenges facing women in those particular transitional moments, as well as clearly delineates the ways in which women’s rights activists sought to confront those challenges and what lessons were learned.
A key criterion in the selection process was the primacy of a women’s rights/feminist perspective; the few exceptions to this rule offer a unique and, we hope, useful, perspective on the issues that women’s rights organizations and activists face in the region. The texts have been selected to provide a wide range of information, relevant to women human rights defenders working from the grassroots to the international level, across issues (including different case studies and examples), from different perspectives (international human rights bodies, academic institutions, NGO contributions, activists’ experiences, etc.), and at a wide range of levels of complexity, in order to respond to the needs of as many readers as possible.

Rising Together: Connect, Heal, Thrive
The Forum theme––Rising Together––is an invitation to engage with our whole selves, to connect with each other in focused, caring and brave ways, so that we can feel the heartbeat of global movements and rise together to meet the challenges of these times.
Feminist, women’s rights, gender justice, LBTQI+ and allied movements around the world are at a critical juncture, facing a powerful backlash on previously-won rights and freedoms. Recent years have brought the rapid rise of authoritarianisms, the violent repression of civil society and criminalization of women and gender-diverse human rights defenders, escalating war and conflict in many parts of our world, the continued perpetuation of economic injustices, and the intersecting health, ecological and climate crises.
Our movements are reeling and, at the same time, seeking to build and maintain the strength and fortitude required for the work ahead. We can't do this work alone, in our silos. Connection and healing are essential to transforming persistent power imbalances and fault lines within our own movements. We must work and strategize in interconnected ways, so that we can thrive together. The AWID Forum fosters that vital ingredient of interconnectedness in the staying power, growth and transformative influence of feminist organizing globally.

Sexting Like a Feminist: Humor in the Digital Feminist Revolution
On September 2nd, 2021, the amazing feminist and social justice activists of AWID’s Crear | Résister | Transform festival came together not only to share resistance strategies, co-create, and transform the world, but also to talk dirty on Twitter.
The exercise was led by Nana Darkoa Sekyiamah, co-founder of the blog Adventures From The Bedrooms of African Women and author of The Sex Lives of African Women, who paired up with the Pan-Africanist digital queer womanist platform AfroFemHub, to ask the question: How can we safely and consensually explore our pleasure, desires, and fantasies via text?
Basically: How would a feminist sext?
I believe this is a critically important question because it looks at the larger issue of how one navigates the online world with a feminist understanding. Under capitalism, discourse around bodies and sex can be dehumanizing and distorting, and navigating sexual pleasure in virtual spaces can feel performative. So seeking out avenues where we can explore how we share our desire in ways that are affirming and enthusiastic can push back against dominant models of presentation and consumption to reclaim these spaces as sites for authentic engagement, proving that all sexting should be just that: feminist.
Plus, allowing feminist discourse to embody its playful side in online discourse helps reframe a popular narrative that feminist engagement is joyless and dour. But as we know, having fun is part of our politics, and an inherent part of what it means to be feminist.
Using the hashtag #SextLikeAFeminist, scholars and activists from all over the world chimed in with their thirstiest feminist tweets, and here are my top ten.
As these tweets show, it turns out that sexting like a feminist is sexy, funny – and horny. Yet, it never loses sight of its commitment to equity and justice.
