UN Women is at another important milestone to find a new leader, and this presents an opportunity for young African women to have their voices represented at the highest level at the United Nations.

On behalf of UNDP, UNEP, the Government of France and the Government of Costa Rica, we are pleased to announce that the final two discussions in the post-2015 consultation on Environmental Sustainability opened early this week.

This series of conferences started with About Women & Work in 2004. About Women & Vision is specifically designed to cater to the needs of motivated and aspiring female professionals in the Caribbean.

The 2013 Geneva Training Course offers an opportunity for participants with existing advocacy experience atdomestic or regional level to expand their knowledge and skills, and over the 2-week period in Geneva directly engage in lobbying and advocacy activities at the UN level.

Our guest speakers are Davina Cooper, Professor of Law and Political Theory at the AHRC Research Centre for Law, Gender & Sexuality at the University of Kent, and Joyce Outshoorn, Professor of Women’s Studies at the University of Leiden.

The conference – hosted in Belfast by Nobel Peace Laureate Mairead Maguire –  will for the first time bring together all six Laureates of the Nobel Women’s Initiative. They will be joined by over 80 influential activists, academics, and decision makers from across the globe whose work focuses on ending militarism and war with nonviolent strategies for peace.

Twenty activists –from a variety of countries – ranging from Pakistan to Kenya and from Ghana to Lebanon – will travel to The Netherlands and will share their stories regarding their work as allies for the Women, Peace and Security Agenda.

The UN Human Rights Council Universal Periodic Review of UN Member States is an important mechanism/opportunity for NGO's to review gender components of individual country UPR Reports on human rights. The Final Reports of the Universal Periodic Review Working Group often contains gender-focused text that can be very useful in advocacy for the human rights of women and girls.

The Gender Forum will dialogue with an expert panel of discussants drawn from government, civil society, professional institutions, financing bodies and research to understand the public procurement regulatory environment and how it is set to change to accommodate the 30% reserve for women and youth, the roles of specific agencies in implementation and monitoring and how local entrepreneurs, particularly women and youth, are organising and poised to benefit from the 30% public procurement reserve.

Organized by the Panel Secretariat, in collaboration with UN agencies and stakeholder groups, the discussion will provide a first opportunity to interact with Panelists on the substantive recommendations of the report of the High Level Panel on the Post 2015 Development Agenda. 

This interactive discussion on Human rights defenders working on corporate accountability: How can the Human Rights Council contribute to their protection?, featuring both human rights experts and human rights defenders, aims to assist the Council to develop an adequate and effective response.

We invite civil society activists and journalists from Egypt and Iraq to follow our online training course on minority rights, freedom of religion and international advocacy. The course is open to applicants from Iraq and Egypt, and the course can be followed in Arabic or English.

The subject of the discussion will be Legal pluralism in Madagascar: can customary and statutory law be reconciled to promote women’s land rights?. 
As Madagascar is moving into Phase II of its tenure reform, it provides an interesting case study of how legal pluralism may restrict or promote women’s access to land.
 

The Eurodad conference will bring together leading civil society thinkers from around the globe working on issues ranging from debt, tax justice, aid, private finance, the International Financial Institutions (IFIs) and global monetary reform.

We are almost 20 years into democracy. It is therefore also timely to critically examine women’s achievements in entering leadership positions within the public and private sectors, and the impact women’s leadership has had in transforming institutions and their efficacy.

In partnership with UN Women’s Fund for Gender Equality and UNDP, Karama calls for applicants to a four-day training of trainers (ToT) focused on leveraging the UN Security Council Resolutions 1325, 1820, 1880, and 1889 specifically to increase women’s political representation and roles in decision-making in the Arab states.

During the past half year members of WIDE+ have worked on writing down the vision, mission, governance structure and strategies for the new network WIDE+. In the upcoming meeting members will take decisions on these issues, and further discuss the course of strategic and operational actions.
