Young Feminist Movement Namibia

Every week we profile a different institutional AWID member. If you would like to be profiled here, please send your biographical information to membership@awid.org

The Young Feminists Movement Namibia (Yfem) draws inspiration, knowledge and leadership from the many feminists who have led the way in Namibia, in Africa, and globally. Yfem believes that activists who participated in these spaces have recognized and built resistance to all forms of discrimination and oppression against women.
YFem is made up of young women aged 16 to 30 from across Namibia – in all their diversities of language, ethnicity, geographic location, class, sexual orientation, different abilities, education and other statuses.Yfem was created to help young feminist in Namibia understand why women (and young women in particular) continue to be discriminated against in their communities and around the world despite existing laws and policies protecting women’s rights.
Yfem is a space for learning, growing and sharing.  And the organization intends to generate new feminist knowledge, nurture courage and creativity, make the personal political and develop young feminist voices, as well as encourage sisterhood and solidarity and healing. The vision of this movement is a society in which young women are leaders and enjoy respect, dignity, bodily integrity, autonomy and choice.
