About this Initiative
Young activists play a critical role in women’s rights organizations and movements worldwide. But many are facing challenges such as a lack of access to funding and information resources as well as a sense of isolation from established organizations.
AWID’s young feminist activism program was created to make sure the voices of young women are heard and reflected in feminist activism and discourse. We want to ensure that young feminists have better access to funding, capacity-building opportunities and networks and that they play a role in decision-making affecting their rights. In addition to supporting young women directly, we are also working with women’s rights activists of all ages on practical models and strategies for multi-generational organizing.
Recognizing the importance of online media for the work of young feminists, our team launched the Young Feminist Wire in May 2010. We use the Wire not only to disseminate information and to offer capacity-building opportunities, but also to foster networking and discussions through interactive online tools.
The YFA team also collaborates with other AWID teams in research activities that concern young women.
