Development Cooperation Beyond The Aid Effectiveness Paradigm: A Women’s Rights Perspective

The multiple crises that the world is facing – food, climate change, financial, economic, ethical and in care work – leave no doubt that we are dealing with a systemic, structural crisis. In such times, development aid is particularly key for the survival of poor people, the majority of whom are women.

The initial version of this paper was prepared by AWID (Anne Schoenstein and Cecilia Alemany, with Natalie Raaber, Diana Aguiar and Alejandra Scampini) as an input for the women’s groups’ contributions to the BetterAid Coordinating Group (BACG). The current version, which integrates contributions from some members of the Women's Working Group on Financing for Development (WWG), remains a preliminary and open document for discussion to be finalized after the Development Cooperation Forum.
