About this Initiative

IDeA SI Pic

AWID session participants at the World Social Forum 2011 in Dakar, Senegal.

AWID promotes the participation of women’s rights organizations in international development spaces to ensure that gender equality and women’s rights perspectives are central in development agendas.

Through advocacy work at the United Nations (UN) and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), AWID amplifies the voices of women’s rights advocates and organizations in key development discussions. We build alliances and plan strategies with our partners to influence development policy and practices. Our team also produces and disseminates resource materials to increase the capacity of women’s groups to engage in economic and development policy processes.

To contribute to building a feminist response to the current economic and systemic crisis, we are producing briefs on the impact of the crisis on women’s rights as well as on feminist responses and alternatives.
