New Resource: Muslim Marriage Contract Website
It is with great pleasure that we announce that the Muslim Marriage Contract website is now live!
The website is designed for a UK audience, to provide much-needed information about laws, practices and classical jurisprudence about Muslim marriage contracts.
It promotes equality between the spouses through a model marriage contract, and also seeks to encourage couples to enter into civil marriages which will ensure greater security for women than unregistered 'nikahs' alone.
The model contract is a consensus document, developed through a lengthy process of community consultation. Since its launch in 2008 it has attracted a great deal of support as well as critiques. It is not a finished product but an on-going process which we hope you will be part of - all towards a goal of ensuring families are more equitable and thus more harmonious.
In presenting a website dedicated to the model contract, we hope to continue this process of information sharing and discussion within Muslim communities in Britain and abroad.
