A Call For Help From Producer Abigail E. Disney
In 2003, my husband Pierre and I were privileged to visit Haiti and visit both the main city of Port Au Prince as well as the town of Canges, where Partners in Health has a hospital.
We have never been more graciously received by people we had never met, and were bowled over by the spirit and kindness of the people of this country. For reasons none of us will ever understand, the nation of Haiti has been plagued by tragedies both man-made and natural. They needed our compassion and kindness then, and they need both more than ever now.
Please consider making a contribution to aid the people of Haiti, but please stop for a moment to make sure that this contribution will genuinely go to the people who most need it, and please try to reserve some of what you can give for the weeks and months ahead - for no matter how great the suffering is today, it is sure to increase and worsen in direct disproportion to the attention the media offers. One appeal we have received today is from Partners in Health and I can assure you, having seen their work in person, that this is a great organization who will use your dollars wisely and well. We may come back to you in coming days and weeks with more suggestions and hope you will offer support as much as you are able.
