Taking Action: Rights, Politics and Realities of HIV/AIDS in India
Organized by:
Action Plus: A coalition of 14 organizations in India established in 1997, which have not just pioneered, but continue to lead initiatives
addressing HIV and AIDS. These organizations have worked with rights, education and care related programs for over a decade. The coalition is an effective learning, policy/advocacy and capacity building forum, often used as a resource pool, for challenging the multidimensional realities of HIV and AIDS in India.

Brinelle D'souza is Assistant Professor at the Centre for Health and Mental Health and Director, CARAT (Cell for AIDS Research, Action and Training), Tata Institute of Social Sciences. She is engaged in research, teaching and policy level work on the issue of health and
development with focus on gender, sexuality, marginalization and rights.
Anjali Gopalan is the Founder and Executive Director of the Naz Foundation (India) Trust, a Delhi-based NGO dedicated to fighting
HIV/AIDS in India and supporting stigmatized and vulnerable communities affected by the virus.
Aylur Kailasam Ganesh is Project Manager at Y. R. Gaitonde Centre for AIDS Research and Education (YRGCARE), a Chennai-based NGO offering services including prevention, voluntary counseling and testing, and health care to persons living with HIV.
Meena Seshu is the general secretary of SANGRAM. The organization’s Centre for Advocacy on Stigma and Marginalisation (CASAM) advocates for the reduction of stigma, violence and harassment of marginalized communities especially those who have challenged dominant norms.
Bishakha Datta is Program Director of Point of View, a Mumbai-based NGO that aims to promote the points of view of women through creative and sustained use of media, arts and culture.
