The Organization:

 

The Nobel Women's Initiative is an organization established in 2006 by

six of the seven living women Nobel Peace Laureates. The NWI seeks to

use the visibility and prestige of the Nobel prize to promote,

spotlight, and amplify the work of women's rights activists,

researchers, and organizations in a way that strengthens and expands

the global movement to advance nonviolence, peace, justice and

equality. NWI accomplishes its mission through three main strategies:

convening, shaping and defining the conversation, and spotlighting and

promoting the work of activist and organizations working to address

The Position:

 

The Event Coordinator will be employed by the Nobel Women's

Initiative's office at the University of Houston Graduate College of

Social Work, and will work under the supervision of Nobel Women's

Initiative Manager of Events and Operations. The purpose of the

position is to plan and coordinate our international meetings, public

events, delegations, and our bi-annual international women's

conference. The Event Coordinator will be responsible for all aspects

of event planning, including logistics, database management,

supervision of event staff, on-site event administration and post

event follow-up.

 

Responsibilities will include, but are not be limited to:

 

  • Coordinating all aspects of Nobel Women's Initiative meetings and

events, including travel arrangements, visa applications,

accommodation, site selection, etc.

  • Attending events, both domestically and internationally, sometimes

for extended periods

  • Providing logistics support to event participants
  • Participating in event budget forecasting and controlling

expenditures

  • Consulting with vendors, negotiating contracts and reconciling

invoices

  • Communication with Nobel Women's Initiative staff, external event

partners, and participants, including drafting reports and other

meeting materials as necessary

  • Supervising event support staff and student workers
  • Overseeing Nobel Women's Initiative databases, including adapting

and/or designing databases in Filemaker

  • Performing office administration
  • The Event Coordinator will perform other job-related tasks as

necessary.

 

Qualifications:

 

The ideal candidate will have:

 

  • At least two years experience in event coordination and

logistics

  • Demonstrated project management, supervisory and time management

skills

  • Proficiency in English and Spanish; should be a skilled

communicator in a multi-cultural environment

  • Demonstrated computer literacy. Experience with Filemaker

Pro a plus.

  • Cross-cultural experience working with an international organization

in the fields of women's rights, human rights, conflict prevention, or

related fields a plus.

  • Advanced degree. (Master of Social Work an asset)

 

The candidate should have a demonstrated ability to:

  • work in a team environment and act as a team leader
  • communicate effectively with colleagues and partners on all levels
  • collaborate with colleagues in different geographic locations

 

Location: Houston, Texas, USA

 

 

Salary and Benefits: The Event Coordinator will be a University of

Houston employee. Benefits are provided by the State of Texas. Salary

is based on experience.
