In July 2010, the international journal Gender & Development, (published for Oxfam GB by Routledge/Taylor and Francis) will publish a Special Issue on Gender and the Economic Crisis.Contributions are invited from development researchers and workers who have experience to share with their peers, and with policymakers and decision-makers in development agencies and governments. The treatment of people moving across borders to live and work represents one of the key policy and human rights challenges of our times, even as labour migration is promoted as a development strategy. Migrant workers and their families are vulnerable to a wide range of human rights abuses - at the hands of state officials, employers and others. This program will assist participants from NGOs, Trade Unions and National Human Rights Institutions to work together in developing practical strategies to promote migrant workers’ rights at the national and regional level.
