Violence Against Women Human Rights Defenders In Mesoamerica: An Assessment In Progress 2010-2011 Update

Coordinated by Marusia Lopez Cruz (JASS)

AWID is pleased to share this update to the Violence Against Women Human Rights Defenders in Mesoamerica published by the Mesoamerican WHRD Initiative

This document presents an update to The Mesoamerican Regional Assessment Report 2010 (Violence Against Women Human Rights Defenders in Mesoamercia: Regional Baseline Report Executive Summary 2010), which presented preliminary research on the situation of Women Human Rights Defenders in Mesoamerica and compiled the reflections by women human rights defenders (WHRD) gathered in Oaxaca in April 2010.

This current report builds on the initial assessment and incorporates new cases and analysis that came out of national report-back sessions after the Oaxaca gathering, and from the information shared through the Mesoamerican WHRD network in 2011.

The updated Assessment of Violence Against Women Human Rights Defenders in Mesoamerica: An assessment in progress was produced by the Meso-American Women Human Rights Defenders Initiative. This initiative is convened by AWID, Just Associates, Colectiva Feminista para el Desarrollo Local, Consorcio Oaxaca, UDEFEGUA, and Fondo Centroamericano de Mujeres.
