Nazra for Feminist Studies

Every week we profile a different institutional AWID member. If you would like to be profiled here, please send your biographical information to membership@awid.org

Nazra for Feminist Studies was established in 2007 as a group of both women and men aiming to build an Egyptian feminist movement. Nazra believes that feminism and gender are political and social issues affecting freedom and development in all societies. And the organization aims to mainstream these values in both public and private spheres. The group considers that youth, in their diversity, struggle to integrate their issues (including gender-related issues) into their societies. Therefore, Nazra generally works to provide all actors striving for gender related justice and equality with various forms of support. In order to achieve these goals Nazra employs various programs and initiatives. These activities include working on the production of knowledge based on research, documentation, monitoring and analysis of methodologies; developing Arabic terminologies to form a glossary of the issues they work on; supporting women human rights defenders through legal and psychological interventions; supporting women in the political arena; strategic litigation on gender related legal cases locally, regionally, and internationally; advocacy to integrate gender issues in the political, legal, social and cultural context; networking with other movements to build a strong feminist movement; and using artistic tools in the context of gender and feminism issues.
