Individual Member: Sahar Zaidi

Sahar Zaidi

Every week we profile a different individual AWID member. If you would like to be profiled here, please send your biographical information to membership@awid.org

Sahar was born in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. She received a Bachelors of Science Degree in Accounting from Purdue University and holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from American University in Sharjah. Sahar created a blog entitled “Man in the Mirror” to highlight the difficulties facing women’s rights.  In this blog she posts articles from around the world relevant to women and human rights, in addition to writing about her own encounters. Her interest in women’s rights led Sahar to pursue a Masters of Public Administration from the Schulich School of Business at York University in Toronto, Canada. During her studies in Toronto she volunteered for various non-for-profit organizations involved in advocating against violence towards women and for human rights. Currently, Sahar is a summer intern at Springtide Resources.  This organization develops and implements programs that respond to the increasing need of violence prevention and intervention in addition to addressing the educational needs of those working towards ending violence against women and their children.

Sahar’s vision is to create awareness in the Muslim community about violence against women. Sahar dreams of being able to change the mentality that allows males to financially, verbally, emotionally and physically abuse women. She is eager to hear from other AWID members, especially those with similar passions as hers.
